Simona Frontoni

Graduated MD, board certified in Endocrinology, Frontoni received her PhD at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” under the direction of professors Umberto Di Mario and Domenico Andreani. She completed a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratories of Ralph A. DeFronzo in San Antonio Texas, and was a Research Associate in the Federal Hospital Audie L. Murphy Veterans’ Administration, San Antonio, Texas. Frontoni was invited to research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, chaired by Luciano Rossetti and later returned to Italy to complete a Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International. In 1998 she was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine in Endocrinology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. In 2013, she became chief of the Clinical Unit for Endocrine and Diabetes, Fatebenefratelli Hospital – University of Rome Tor Vergata. From 2004 to 2008 Frontoni served as member of the Executive Council of the Italian Diabetes Society. From 2009 to 2014, she served as a member of the Executive Committee of Neurodiab (Study Group of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes) becoming Chairman of the same Committee in 2015. As author or co-author, Frontoni has published numerous publications on the complications of Type 2 diabetes, particularly in the field of hypertension and autonomic nervous system in major international journals.
